In Between Some Sort of Shape

by Manuela Lourenço

"In Between Some Sort of Shape” is a series of photographic exercises that explore the relationship between anxiety and the body. Through performance and self-portraits, she represents the feeling of  being caught between two psychological states, the confusion and distress caused by a never ending flow of information, and the sensation of being paralyzed and pulled in opposite directions. In her work, she poses the question of what it means to inhabit the unfolding sensations triggered by a state of anxiety and to inhabit the space of the “in-between” and bearing not knowing

Manuela Lourenço is a Brazilian photographer from São Paulo, currently living in New York.  She holds a degree in architecture and her artistic practice centers on themes of memory, identity, lived space and landscape.
