The Puget Sound region has dramatic weather and light this time of year. Our moods reflect those visual and physical geographic changes, particularly under the constraints of a new wave of COVID. I’ve been going on long walks to clear my mind and look for inspiration. I’ve found self-portraits and images that capture the changing seasons to be comforting and entertaining. The images are from Seattle and Bainbridge Island, two cities and land bodies that are connected by a regular ferry line but separated by Elliot Bay of the Puget Sound. One of my favorite walks, and cloud watching forays, was to the ferry terminal, onboard the boat to Bainbridge, and back home. An island is a fitting metaphor for social distancing, where physical isolation provides a semblance of safety. Of course, the social contact in the larger city increases the risk of infection.
